Staff Spotlight: Lisa Schenk

On any given evening you might find Lisa Schenk either on the road or at the gym.

Lisa, senior member services account representative with VML Insurance Programs (VMLIP), covers the southwest region of the state for the pool – a role that takes her from the Shenandoah Valley to Southwest Virginia, including the Piedmont region,  throughout the year to meet with the more than 190 members she works with. In June alone, Lisa put nearly 3,168 miles on her vehicle – mostly up and down Interstate 81.

During her member meetings Lisa reviews proposals, discusses resources available to them from VMLIP, reviews the website, and reviews ways VMLIP can help members reduce their cost of risk.

“In my role here at VMLIP I really feel like I’m a partner with our members,” said Lisa. “People want to meet with us – because it’s not your typical meeting with an insurance salesperson. When we work with our members we know we are really helping them – not only with insurance but with other solutions that help mitigate risk.”

Senior Account Representative Lisa Schenk

Lisa grew up in Vinton, Virginia and began work in the insurance industry during high school with EF Hutton Life Insurance Agency. After high school, she then moved on to Chaney, Thomas, Stephenson & Hill, starting as a clerk typist and moving up to a customer service representative for personal lines of coverage.

In 1987 Lisa received her Property & Casualty license and soon moved on to handling commercial lines insurance coverage – a switch from working with personal insurance. She worked with Scott Insurance, Riedman, Rutherford, Zurich, and most recently Bankers Insurance for eight years as a producer before coming to VMLIP.

She has her CIC, CPIW, ACSR, AINS designations.

Lisa has been a member of the Rocky Mount Rotary Club since 2006, and currently serves as treasurer. She’s been active as chair for the club’s Independence Festival committee – an event that serves as the club’s largest fundraiser each year. She was honored with her second Paul Harris Fellow from the organization.

“I really enjoy being a part of that organization and giving back to the community,” said Lisa.

When she’s not traveling she’s working out of her home in Rocky Mount, Virginia, that she shares with her husband of 17 years and four Shih-Tzu’s – Harley, Willie, Jack, and Bob. She also frequents two gyms – Carilion Wellness and Lab Sports Performance – with a close group of friends taking classes such as body step, body pump, body jam, body attack, and warrior.

“That’s where I am almost every night,” says Lisa.
