ICMA celebrates 100 years of the Code of Ethics

This month the International City/County Management Association, or ICMA, is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ICMA Code of Ethics.

With March recognized as National Ethics Awareness Month, VRSA Local Government Specialist Peter Stephenson recently sat down with Community Relations and Legislative Affairs Director of the City of Falls Church, Cindy Mester, to discuss ethics in local government.

Mester described ethics as the foundation that keeps her focused.

Throughout the discussion, they reviewed ethical issues mentioned at a recent Virginia Local Government Management Association conference, as well as council-manager relations under the lens of ethics.

Their discussion can be viewed in the video below!

Stephenson, a past town manager with more than 30 years of local government experience, works with our members to help them identify emerging risks and challenges in government finance, planning, and compliance. He also provides leadership counseling, ethics training, strategic planning, and more.

Past articles Stephenson has written on the topic of ethics can be found online.
