Hands free is not risk free

When you text and drive your eyes are off the road for an average of five seconds. At 55 mph, that’s enough time to cover the length of a football field. Transportation incidents represented 41 percent of all workplace fatalities in 2012. Not only are these losses tragic, but transportation incidents also result in lost productivity, property damage, workers’ compensation costs, and much more.

And, contrary to popular belief, not all distracted driving relates to texting. In fact, this year for Distracted Driving Awareness Month the National Safety Council (NSC) is launching the first national campaign to focus on the dangers of using hands-free devices while driving. The NSC has found that 80 percent of Americans mistakenly believe that using hands-free is a safe choice while driving.

Hands Free Not Risk FreeHands-free is not risk-free.

On April 1 the NSC is asking for help promoting the campaign by:

  • Sharing a link to their public service announcement on your social media channels;
  • Share materials such as fact-sheets and posters, available online;
  • Post a pledge to drive cell-free on your social media presences, and tag your friends and families; and
  • Post Infographics on your website, newsletters, and in social media.
