VASS/VASBO Winter Conference
Member Services Specialist Harry McMillen and Senior Account Executive Lisa Schenk attended the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) and Virginia Association of School Business Officials (VASBO) Winter Conference in January.
City of Franklin
VRSA Safety Consultant Fonda Craig visited the City of Franklin to discuss strategies to mitigate backing, failure to yield right of way, tailgating, excessive speed, and distracted driving. HR Director Camara Jacobs coordinated the training, bringing in public works staff to discuss these unsafe driving behaviors that contribute to vehicle accidents.
VRSA Member Roundtable – Fairfax
The City of Fairfax hosted a risk management roundtable to discuss trending loss areas for workers’ compensation and various topics of interest for Northern Virginia members. Representatives from the Cities of Manassas, Fairfax, and Falls Church; the Towns of Herndon, Leesburg, and Vienna; the Loudoun Sanitation Authority; and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority participated.
Virginia Local Elected Officials Conference
VRSA partnered with the Virginia Municipal League to kick off the new year with their annual Virginia Local Elected Officials Conference. Nearly 200 new and seasoned elected officials registered for the event.
During the lunch session, VRSA Managing Director Marcus Hensel provided a quick overview of available protections for public officials.
OSHA-10 General Industry Training in Chesapeake
VRSA Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig and Safety Specialist Edward Shelton conducted an OSHA-10 General Industry training in Chesapeake. Lina Kennedy with Chesapeake Public Schools coordinated hosting the engagement, where staff from Gloucester County Public Schools and the City of Suffolk also attended.
VRSA staff recognized at VLGMA
VRSA staff were recognized at the Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA) Winter Conference as the first multi-year platinum sponsor. We look forward to many more years of supporting VLGMA as a member-owned and governed risk pool, with no outside interests, for cities, counties, towns, schools, and authorities only in Virginia.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Course
VRSA Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig, Safety Consultant Christine Gillison, and Safety Specialist Edward Shelton conducted an OSHA 30-Hour Construction Course in the City of Lexington. Representatives from Bedford Regional Water Authority, the Augusta County Service Authority, and the Town of Elkton also attended.
OSHA 10-Hour General Industry in Hanover County
Safety Consultant Christine Gillison and Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig conducted an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Course in Hanover County. Members from the Town of Appomattox, Mathews County, South Central Wastewater Authority, Appomattox River Water Authority, Alexandria Transit Company, Hanover County Social Services, and the Virginia Department of Health attended.
Town of Saltville
VRSA Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig and Safety Specialist Edward Shelton visited the Town of Saltville to conduct an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Course. Employees from Saltville, the Towns of Tazewell and Wise, and the Washington County Service Authority attended.
VML and VRSA join together for a workshop on the Eastern Shore
VRSA joined forces with the Virginia Municipal League to conduct a workshop in the Town of Onancock. Topics discussed included marijuana in the workplace, legislative updates, cybersecurity, and OSHA awareness. VML Executive Director Michelle Gowdy, VRSA Managing Director Marcus Hensel, VRSA Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock, VRSA Local Government Specialist Peter Stephenson, and Senior Account Executive Nora Pierre attended to present and meet with participants.
South East Loss Control
VRSA Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock, Public Safety Specialist Gary Dillon, and Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig provided an update on VRSA’s resources and programs at the South East Loss Control conference.
