VRSA staff have been out and about this fall speaking at or attending conferences, engaging in professional development, providing training, and much more!

Vienna, Warrenton, and Herndon safety training

VRSA Safety Specialist Edward Shelton and Safety Consultant Christine Gillison were invited by the Towns of Vienna, Warrenton, and Herndon to provide train-the-trainer instruction on trenching and permit-required confined space this fall. As employees are injured every day in these operations, VRSA supports members striving to create a safe and healthy workplace for their employees.


City of Suffolk

The City of Suffolk requested OSHA-10 training on construction from VRSA Safety Specialist Edward Shelton. The training included hazard recognition activities, games, and discussions. Additionally, VRSA Public Safety Specialist Gary Dillon presented on active shooter response.

Virginia State & Local Government Cybersecurity Partnering Workshop

VRSA Managing Director Marcus Hensel participated in a cybersecurity insurance panel at the Virginia State & Local Government Cybersecurity Partnering Workshop hosted by George Mason University‘s Center for Assurance Research and Engineering (CARE).

Since 2012, VRSA has provided cybersecurity protections to members, including resources and services to help members identify and implement controls to reduce the likelihood and/or impact of an incident.


2022 Virginia School Safety Training Forum

VRSA was a proud sponsor of the 2022 Virginia School Safety Training Forum held in Hampton. VRSA is committed to promoting a safe learning environment for children and staff and was glad to partner for this important forum.

 


Emergency Vehicle Operations and Liability (EVOLve)

As law enforcement officers spend more time driving than on any other single task, they face increased exposure to accidents resulting in injuries or deaths. VRSA Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock provided EVOLve training to recruits at the Crater Criminal Justice Academy to raise awareness on the criminal and civil implications associated with the operation of emergency vehicles.


DriveSmart Virginia sponsorship

VRSA continues to be a proud supporter and sponsor of the annual DriveSmart Distracted Driving Summit. Below, VRSA Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig facilitates a presentation at the summit. VRSA provides a number of resources and training opportunities to help members address distracted driving among their fleets.

Protecting your infrastructure from cybersecurity threats

VRSA Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock provided cybersecurity training to members of the Virginia Rural Water Association on the importance and benefits of understanding the risks involved with cybersecurity. Bullock stressed that by implementing simple in-place controls, entities can protect themselves and their communities.


Public works/utilities employees attend OSHA-10 training

VRSA Safety Specialist Edward Shelton and Safety Consultant Christine Gillison presented OSHA-10 Hour Construction training for public works and public utilities staff from the City of Suffolk and Town of Smithfield. This training is designed to assist employees in identifying and reducing hazards in the workplace.
