Thanks to all who participated in VML Insurance Programs’ (VMLIP) first safety photo contest. We asked members to submit their best safety, program, or other safety-related photo in recognition of April as National Safety Month.

The winners are:

Alexandria TransitLeft turn safety – submitted by Lorenza Myers, safety and loss control coordinator, Alexandria Transit Company/DASH

Fourth Place: City of Winchester

City of Winchester

“I found this photo in the newspaper many years ago and it is the first photo I use in my safety awareness training … I hide the written words and after we discuss the issues with this scene, I then present that the photo was in the local newspaper and the city doesn’t want to be this type of ‘role model’.  Sometimes learning through others, like this situation and in a controlled environment like our training room, I can hit home and set the tone of our safety program very quickly by one picture.” – Steve Corbit, purchasing/risk manager, City of Winchester

Third Place: City of Suffolk

Fall Protection Picture 02

“This picture illustrates Fall Protection training for the City of Suffolk Public Works Department conducted by the Division of Risk Management and Capital Safety Fall Protection Experts.  Employees learned the safety features, proper use and how to inspect their harnesses.  Also, they learned OSHA requirements for Fall Protection use.” – Brian Parker, risk manager, City of Suffolk
