While the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted a “near-to-below” average hurricane season in 2023, it is still important to be prepared for if, and when a hurricane impacts Virginia.
NOAA is forecasting a range of 12 to 17 total named storms of which five to nine may become hurricanes, including one to four major hurricanes.
Hurricane season began June 1, and runs through the end of November. To help members prepare, VRSA has developed a Hurricane Preparedness document on our website, as well as our Hurricane Checklist.
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management has also developed a Hurricane Preparedness Guide that can be accessed on its website.
