Workers’ Compensation Plus coverage expanded

This spring VRSA introduced Workers’ Compensation Plus, a new coverage option for members purchasing workers’ compensation coverage. Workers’ Compensation Plus provides coverage for expenses not covered under the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act, such as:

  • Costs associated with adapting the home for injured workers over the amount provided by the Act;
  • Counseling services for immediate family members or co-workers affected by a work-related death or catastrophic work-related incident;
  • Expenses incurred by a primary caregiver during an employee’s inpatient stay;
  • Personal belongings – such as eyeglasses, jewelry, or clothing damaged because of a compensable claim; and
  • Expenses for testing for non-compensable bloodborne pathogen exposures.

“Our goal is to provide coverage to meet members where their needs are,” said VRSA Managing Director Marcus Hensel. “In response to our initial offering and listening to the feedback we have received from our members, we have expanded the scope of this program.”

The expanded coverage now includes expenses related to boarding pets during an extended covered injury and funeral/burial related expenses.

72 members elected to add Workers’ Compensation Plus to their renewals for the 2022-2023 policy year.  If you are interested in learning more about or adding this coverage, please contact your member service representative.
