Service Spotlight: HR Consulting Services

Did you know that VRSA provides human resources services to assist members with employee issues such as documentation, disciplinary actions, and terminations?

VRSA’s human resources services, provided by VRSA Director of Human Resources Tina Stevens, are available to all members purchasing Public Officials Liability Coverage. Members are encouraged to utilize this service to help avoid Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charges for such things as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination.

Services include:

  • Access to EPL Assist
  • HR consultations (phone-based or in-person)
  • Review of members’ materials, including:
    • Job descriptions;
    • Policies and procedures;
    • Corrective actions; and more.
  • FMLA Consultation
  • Access to the VRSA Multimedia Library
  • Webinars, workshops and on-site training

EPL Assist provides eligible members with access to the nation’s leading employment and labor law firm, Littler Mendelson P.C., providing a comprehensive package of risk management products and services carefully designed to manage your workforce and reduce your exposure to employment-related liability.

HR Consultations, in person or by phone, are available to members wishing to gain personalized guidance on policies or procedures, or to speak with Stevens on sensitive personnel issues in a confidential manner.

Virtual Engagements: Stevens also offers virtual engagements each month on topics such as: writing job descriptions, documentation, effective interviewing, the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), performance appraisals, terminations, and more.

New Supervisors Series: Routinely, Stevens provides training for new supervisors focusing on various employment laws and supervisor skills. Topics include: interviewing and hiring legally, proper documentation, performance management, corrective actions and terminations, employment laws, recruitment/retention, and more.

Online Training: Members have access to web-based training courses, available 24/7/365 through the VRSA Online University.

Sample Documents: Stevens has compiled hundreds of sample policies and procedures, sample job descriptions, employment posters, performance evaluations, and helpful information all available on the HR Services page of the VRSA website, open to eligible members.
