As we move into the spring months, VRSA’s staff have been back out interacting with members, attending conferences, and providing training.

Emotional Intelligence and Executive Decision-Making

VRSA Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock presented a session on emotional intelligence and executive decision-making at the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation winter conference in Short Pump, Virginia.

VRSA also sponsored a presentation by Chief Frank Kitzerow (Ret), president of the NASCPC National Association of School and Campus Police Chiefs on developing a school safety ecosystem.

 

Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA) 2022 Winter Conference

VRSA Local Government Specialist Peter Stephenson attended VLGMA 2022 Winter Conference in Staunton, where VRSA is proud to be the multi-year platinum sponsor.

VRSA helped arrange a cybersecurity presentation at the VLGMA conference. VRSA’s cybersecurity counsel Darius Davenport presented with Karen Cole on the importance of incident response plans and in-place controls.

 

OSHA 10-Hour Training

In March, Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig, Safety Consultant Christine Gillison, and Safety Specialist Edward Shelton presented an OSHA 10-Hour construction course to members from the City of Fredericksburg, Hanover County, and Hanover County Public Schools. These members have shown a commitment to raising hazard awareness to keep their employees safe.

 

How to NOT go viral for all the wrong reasons

VRSA Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock presented two courses in Herndon, Virginia. The first, How to NOT go viral for all the wrong reasons, discussed how what employees say may impact the outcome of an incident. Bullock’s second presentation focused on using tactical communications skills for difficult conversations.

 

Risk management: We agreed to what?

VRSA Managing Director Marcus Hensel participated in a panel discussion at the Virginia Association of Government Purchasing entitled: Risk management: We agreed to what? The panel reviewed general insurance requirements found in contracts and requests for proposals. The panel also covered suggestions to prevent creating liabilities or waiving rights.

 

OSHA 10-Hour Construction and General Industry

VRSA Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig and Safety Specialist Edward Shelton conducted training in the City of Salem. Participants included the streets department, utilities, electric, and water treatment and distribution. VRSA is committed to assisting members in building safer and healthier workplaces for their employees.

 

Trenching and confined space: Train the trainer course

VRSA Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig and Safety Specialist Edward Shelton presented a trenching and confined space train the trainer course at the Bedford Regional Water Authority. Additional attendees from the Western Virginia Water Authority, the City of Staunton, the Town of Rocky Mount, the Henry County Public Service Authority, and the Halifax County Service Authority participated. Craig and Shelton provided trainees with a turn-key program and training program on both topics.
