VMLIP to rebrand as the Virginia Risk Sharing Association

VML Insurance Programs (VMLIP) is excited to announce that our name will be changing as of July 1, 2019, to the “Virginia Risk Sharing Association” or VRSA, as part of our rebranding efforts.

“The new name better represents the diversity of our membership, which includes not only municipalities, but counties, school systems and many different types of authorities,” said VMLIP Managing Director Steve Craig. “Many also believe that VMLIP is a part of the Virginia Municipal League (VML), and the new name will help to differentiate us as separate organizations.”

While VRSA will continue a special relationship with VML, the new name also reiterates that VRSA has its own board, staff, mission, goals, objectives, and products and services.

“The new name focuses on the risk sharing aspect of what the pool does,” says VMLIP Members’ Supervisory Board Chair, and Hanover County Administrator Rhu Harris. “VRSA provides more than insurance – we are committed to reducing members’ total cost of risk through comprehensive coverages and a variety of risk management services and resources.”

VRSA will continue to partner with members to protect their assets and promote risk management affecting their strategic objectives.

“VRSA will continue to be member-owned and governed, and provide our members with the benefits of financial strength and rate stability, as well as peace of mind,” says VMLIP Members’ Supervisory Board Member and Clifton Forge Town Manager Darlene Burcham. “With a membership made up of more than 475 governmental entities, VRSA will maintain the pooling tradition started nearly 40 years ago – resulting in risk that is managed, not just financed, through pooling.”

Members may notice that as the pool’s name has changed, so has the logo. However, the logo mark continues to symbolize the partnership forged between members sharing risk in the pool.

VRSA’s staff will remain singularly devoted to providing great service and partnership to members.

“As a long time active member of both the pool and the league, I believe Virginia Risk Sharing Association (VRSA)  more broadly reflects our diverse membership as a member owned, member governed not-for-profit organization,” said VMLIP Local Government Specialist, past chair of the VMLIP Members’ Supervisory Board, and retired Smithfield Town Manager Peter Stephenson. “We will continue to strengthen risk management and serve all political subdivisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia. VRSA is a contemporary reflection of who we are today, and I am proud that we will continue our long standing partnership with the Virginia Municipal League in the days and years ahead.”

We thank you for your continued membership and look forward to you being a part of our future as the Virginia Risk Sharing Association.
