Meet Tina Stevens, VRSA Director of Human Resources Services

As part of VRSA’s 40th anniversary, throughout the year various services, resources and coverages will be highlighted through this blog.

VRSA Director of Human Resources Services Tina Stevens has been providing human resources consulting to members purchasing public official’s liability coverage since 2007.

The goal is to assist members in the mitigation of employment practices liability exposure.

Through this service, Stevens provides members with:

  • Review of materials, such as: job descriptions, policies and procedures; corrective actions, etc.;
  • HR consultations on a variety of subjects;
  • FMLA consultations;
  • Access to the VRSA Online University and multimedia library;
  • Webinars, workshops, and on-site training; and
  • Access to EPL Assist.

Stevens has populated the VRSA HR Services page, accessible to members purchasing public official’s liability coverage, with hundreds of sample materials and policies, as well as sample job descriptions, a sample personnel policy, a recruiting toolkit, and an HR Audit which allows members to assess areas of their HR processes that may expose them to employment liability.

The HR Services page also provides helpful links, such as a collection of articles on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), employee performance management standards, a model transgender employment policy, and more.

HR Shorts are also available – these short streaming videos each cover topics such as Inclement Weather Pay, Terminating an Employee for DUI, FMLA Bonding Time, Delivering Criticism, and more.

Stevens began her career in HR at a local insurance agency. She is a self-described “FMLA geek,” who loves helping members “get it right.”

“So ofter we think about HR as being employee-centric, but it’s true function is to ensure the employer has the policies and procedures needed to protect itself and abide by required regulations,” said Stevens.
