In the spring edition of Pooling Matters, VRSA provided an emerging risk alert notifying Virginia local governments to prepare to publicly address flood control efforts to property owners, the media, developers, and more.
In early June, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation announced $18 million in grant funds for the new Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund.
“The Community Flood Preparedness Fund will be critical to implementing future projects associated with the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan,” said Rear Adm. Ann Phillips (Ret.), Special Assistant to the Governor for Coastal Adaptation and Protection. “As we enter another Atlantic hurricane season with ‘above average’ storms predicted, there’s no time to waste.”
Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3. More information on the grant application is available here. A virtual information sessions will be held on Aug. 13.
