Annual Meeting returns in-person after four years!

More than 100 members gathered in Glen Allen on Friday, May 3, for the first in-person Annual Meeting since 2019!

The half-day meeting began with a presentation from Mark Hessel, senior vice president of HCA Asset Management on the value of property appraisals. Alexander McDaniel, Esquire with Crenshaw, Ware & Martin, P.L.C. followed Hessel, presenting general FOIA training for public bodies. The meeting concluded with a presentation on auditing your HR function from VRSA Director of Human Resources Tina Stevens.

After lunch, VRSA Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock facilitated a Risk Manager Forum where topics included the new Certificates of Insurance (COI) Portal, communicating with claimants, cameras and telematics, training CDL drivers, handling positive drug tests, marijuana workplace, and more.

“We are being purposeful with bringing back events to ensure we are delivering what matters,” said Managing Director Marcus Hensel. “This event allowed us to bring together members from across the Commonwealth in one room to learn from each other and build connections.”

The Fall Education Forums will be held again across the state this September. Dates and locations are as follows:

    • Wednesday, Sept. 18: Smithfield
    • Thursday, Sept. 19: Fredericksburg
    • Thursday, Sept. 26: Wytheville
    • Friday, Sept. 27: Harrisonburg
