Strategic Planning Retreat

Local Government Specialist Peter Stephenson facilitated a strategic planning retreat for the Town of Mount Jackson. Participants included representatives from the town council, the planning commission, town management, and staff department directors. The group analyzed the town’s strengths, weaknesses, and challenges, worked on a town mission statement, reviewed core values and comprehensive plans, developed a top priorities list, and more. Town of Chilhowie

VRSA Safety Specialist Eddie Shelton presented OSHA training to employees in the Town of Chilhowie. Thank you to the Chilhowie Fire Department for hosting the event in their fire academy.

Training Trifecta

VRSA Safety Consultant Christine Gillison facilitated a “Training Trifecta” event in the Town of Herndon. During the event, confined space entry, fall protection, and trenching were reviewed.

NOVA Parks Host Risk Manager Roundtable

Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig and Safety Consultant Christine Gillison facilitated a risk manager roundtable event hosted by NOVA Parks in the fall. In addition to NOVA Parks staff, representatives from the cities of Fredericksburg, Manassas, and Fairfax, and the towns of Herndon, Warrenton, and Vienna were in attendance. A variety of topics were discussed, including telematics, simulator systems, driver training, forming safety committees, and more. Thank you to NOVA Parks for hosting this event!

Town of Mount Jackson

Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock and Public Safety Specialist Gary Dillon visited the Town of Mount Jackson to deliver training on Workplace Civility and Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events. We thank Mount Jackson Town Manager Olivia Hilton and Human Resources Director Jennifer Frye for their interest in bringing this training to the town.

Town of Purcellville

Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig and Safety Consultant Christine Gillison conducted an OSHA 10 General Industry course in the Town of Purcellville. Attendees came from the towns of Woodstock, Berryville, and Warrenton, in addition to the cities of Manassas and Winchester, and the Prince William County Service Authority.

During the training, Craig was able to wish Purcellville Director of Administration Hooper McCann, and long-time friend, a happy and healthy retirement. Congratulations Hooper!

Local Elected Officials Conference

The Virginia Municipal League kicked off the new year with the Local Elected Officials Conference, featuring a presentation from Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock on marijuana in the workplace.

Western Virginia Water Authority

Safety Specialist Eddie Shelton facilitated a contractor safety roundtable discussion hosted by the Western Virginia Water Authority (WVWA). Staff from the Bedford Regional Water Authority, Augusta County Service Authority, the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority, and the cities of Galax and Lexington joined WVWA staff for the event. The group discussed setting the specifications within a contract to attract reputable and truly qualified contractor bids for projects.

Forklift Training

Safety Specialist Eddie Shelton conducted forklift training for the Town of Chilhowie’s water, wastewater, and public works department. During the day, participants received classroom discussion and hands-on training. Congrats to the town for having 13 fully trained forklift operators!

Town of Herndon

Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock presented training to employees of the Town of Herndon. Bullock presented three sessions to groups at the Herndon Department of Public Works, the Herndon Municipal Center, and the Herndon Police Department on employment practices.
