The forum is organized by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in partnership with VRSA, the Office of the Attorney General, the Virginia Department of Education, the Virginia Association for School Superintendents, the Virginia School Board Association, the Virginia Sheriff’s Association, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Virginia D.A.R.E. Associations.

Topics this year include:

  • Emergency preparedness and crisis response
  • Mental health supports
  • School-law enforcement partnership
  • Community engagement
  • Building mentorship skills
  • Involving everyone in school safety

“We have been a supporter of this forum since 2019,” said VRSA Managing Director Marcus Hensel.

“More than 230,000 students in Virginia schools are in divisions covered by VRSA,” said Hensel. “We are committed to supporting any initiatives or groups that are working to increase the safety of students, teachers, and staff.”

The forum is intended for school and division leadership, school security, law enforcement, prek-12 counseling, mental health professionals, and more.
