Automobile coverage losses include property and liability. Over the last five years, VRSA has incurred nearly $36 million in both property and liability losses relating to auto coverage. Automobile losses are the second most frequent cause of loss for public entities. Working to prevent and reduce these losses helps keep employees safe, protects member property, and lowers costs.
VRSA offers defensive driving instruction provided through our safety consultants, as well as courses available through the VRSA Online University and online resources and training modules on our website.

We also support organizations such as DriveSmart Virginia, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and changing behavior to improve safety on Virginia’s roadways. VRSA has been a proud sponsor of DriveSmart’s Distracted Driving Summit since 2018.
We will again be sponsoring the 12th annual summit, to be held Aug. 7 – 8 in Williamsburg, VA. This year’s summit will cover topics including technology to curb distracted driving, best practices, research, law enforcement efforts, and ways to change behavior.
This year’s summit also offers an EMS/First Responder breakout session track. For more information on ways VRSA can help you promote defensive driving in your entity, contact your safety consultant.
