VAPDC 50th Anniversary

OSHA At A Glance Training

VMLIP Senior Safety Consultant Fonda Craig and Safety Consultant Edward Shelton presented OSHA At A Glance training in the City of Staunton this spring. Additional training courses are scheduled throughout the year.

VMLIP Train the Trainer

VMLIP Senior Safety Consultants Fonda Craig and Pete Strickler provided Train the Trainer Safe Driver Training Class in Exmore on March 13.

Below 100

VMLIP Public Safety Specialist Gary Dillon provided Below 100 training for the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office on March 15.

Ashland Active Shooter Training

VMLIP Public Safety Specialist Gary Dillon provided active shooter training to the Ashland Police Department on March 20. The class focused on active shooter statistics as well as the “run, hide, fight” concept.

Defuse and Manage Difficult Situations in K-12 and Higher Education: School and Police Tactics that Work

VMLIP partnered with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services to sponsor this training featuring Dr. John More, CEO of Response Law, LLC. The presentation provided a comprehensive look at defining legal roles and authority i the K-12 and higher education setting, while adhering to legal standards.

Hands Free Virginia Coalition

VMLIP Senior Safety Consultants Fonda Craig and Pete Strickler joined members of the Hands Free Virginia Coalition, of which VMLIP is a member, in partnership with Drive Smart Virginia to advocate for HB 1811 and SB 1341 (#HandsFreeVA). 

Below 100 – VACP Small Agency Symposium

VMLIP Public Safety Specialist Gary Dillon provided Below 100 training to the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Small Agency Symposium in Wytheville on March 26.

Dangerous Crossroads Ahead

VMLIP sponsored the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police conference this year, with Scott MacLatchie from Hall Booth, Smith, P.C. providing training on “Dangerous Crossroads Ahead: The Intersection of the First & Fourth Amendment.” The session focused on the citizen’s right to film law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties or in public spaces.

OSHA One Hour

VMLIP Senior Safety Consultants Fonda Craig and Pete Strickler provided OSHA Ten-Hour for the Town of Vienna on March 27 and 28.

VLGMA Conference

VMLIP staff exhibited at the Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA) conference in Staunton!

Southwest Chiefs of Police Meeting

VMLIP and the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) invited chiefs from Southwest Virginia to gather and discuss issues affecting their region, as well as emerging criminal justice trends. More than 30 chiefs attended and received presentations on accreditation, leadership, regional policy alignment, training and legislative needs, and more.

Reasonable Suspicion and Emotional Intelligence training

VMLIP Director of Education and Training Thomas Bullock provided the first of several Reasonable Suspicion and Emotional Intelligence training for member supervisors. He’s reviewing the dangers of substance abuse in the workplace – and how emotions can change the way brains function and diminish cognitive abilities, decision-making and interpersonal skills.

County Government Day

VMLIP Local Government Specialist Peter Stephenson attended County Government Day, where Virginia Governor Ralph Northam spoke.
