The Town of Dayton in the Shenandoah Valley sits five miles south of the City of Harrisonburg.
“It’s a community of about 1,700,” said Dayton Town Manager Brian Borne. “Very close-knit, strong sense of civic pride, historic character, and that small-town charm that everyone loves to be in and experience.
With a small staff operating their public works department, the town is always focused on ways to increase efficiency. Last winter, they utilized VRSA Risk Management Grants to purchase a concrete chainsaw, a specialized device used to make deep, precise cuts in curbs, sidewalks, and utility pipes.
“It’s built for water/sewer/public works operations,” said Borne. “It differs from a regular chainsaw in that it’s for pipe and masonry, so it can cut all kinds of pipe.”
