Seizure Aware Workplaces bill in effect

Beginning July 1, all employers with more than 25 employees are required to display information about seizure first aid. The “Seizure Aware Workplaces” bill, requires the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry to provide in-color posters to be physically displayed in an open and easily visible area of the workplace.

The posters provide guidance on what to do if a coworker experiences a seizure in the workplace. They include staying with the person until they are awake or alert, keeping them safe, turning them on their side, and information on when to dial 911.

A copy of the required poster can be found on the DOLI website, or with other required employer posters on the VRSA sample materials page here.

More information and resources can be found on the Epilepsy Foundation website.
