Mathews County uses VRSA Risk Management Grants to add security for staff

Mathews County utilizes a historic building as its administrative office. To protect employees, the county recently received Risk Management Grant funds for the purchase of security cameras to provide an extra layer of security.

“The cameras help protect citizens and staff because they cover the parking lot [as well],” said County Administrator Ramona Wilson. “Several times we have night meetings with the board of supervisors and we’re going back to our vehicles in the dark, so the cameras cover the parking lots so we’re safe.”

Cameras were installed to ensure staff could see individuals approaching the building, in the courtyard area, and around historic monuments.
