As a truly member-owned and member-governed group self-insurance pool, VRSA exists to serve our members. One way we do this is through our Risk Management Grant program. Each year the Members’ Supervisory Board allocates $400,000 in grant funds to assist members in preventing and reducing losses.
As a part of this program, we also provide funding for continuing professional education and training. Last year VRSA provided nearly $40,000 in funds for members to attend various training – such as the Virginia Women’s Municipal Leadership Institute, attended by City of Hopewell Director of Recreation and Parks, Tabitha Martinez.
“In parks and rec we don’t have a lot of experience with dealing with a municipality as a whole, so to have this opportunity was remarkable,” said Martinez. She said the institute helped her “experience a lot of professional development but also soft skills and what it takes to be an executive woman in leadership.”
