VRSA has incurred more than $5.5 million in property and liability automobile claims related to law enforcement vehicles over the last five years.
To help reduce automobile-related liabilities, the City of Fredericksburg Police Department requested Risk Management Grant funding to purchase additional recording devices for their police vehicles.
“All of our vehicles have monitoring devices in them, but we took this opportunity to add 16 vehicles to this pilot program,” said Public Information Officer Caitlyn McGhee. “This gave the police department the opportunity for admin purposes to review footage, so we can review it for liability and pursuit purposes.”
The cameras are a part of a 12-month pilot program designed to encourage safe driving and provide additional safety for citizens.
Each year, the VRSA Members’ Supervisory Board allocates more than $400,000 in grant funds to assist members in preventing and reducing losses. Applications for the VRSA Risk Management Grant program open on August 1.
