AlexRenew is the wastewater treatment authority for Alexandria and parts of Fairfax County. Each year, the authority treats approximately 13 billion gallons of wastewater from area homes, schools, and businesses before safely returning it to the waterways.
One way the authority is continuing to innovate is by implementing an Incident Management System. The system is designed to streamline reporting, tracking, and resolution of workplace incidents, allow staff to quickly log incidents, near-misses, and safety observations, and to notify the proper staff so these issues can be addressed.
“We wanted a better way to track our incidents, near misses, and hazard recognition,” said AlexRenew Safety and Security Manager Alex Rigby. “Right now, the way it works is we heavily rely on manual processes, spreadsheets, emails, Word docs, SharePoint, word of mouth, face-to-face conversations – and things get lost, things fall through the cracks.”
“An incident management system gives us consistency, real-time visibility, and a much clearer picture of what we can improve across our facility and our operations. For us, it’s about strengthening safety culture and making sure we’re proactive, not reactive.”
