Currently, we have an employment opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to analyze renewal and prospective information to determine appropriate pricing and coverage on member accounts.  We are looking for a dynamic team-player with the ability to interact successfully with program members to build and maintain good working relationships.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing outstanding customer service to our members and fellow staff by promptly, courteously and accurately responding to verbal and written communications within established timeframes, conducting visits and attending meetings and maintaining current knowledge of trends in the property and liability field.
  • Accurately evaluating renewal & prospect information to determine appropriate pricing and coverage on individual accounts.
  • Preparing proposals, billings and policies within a timely manner and provide quality control over all within your authority.
  • Working with reinsurers and broker to obtain quotes/coverage outside of the program as well as to validate proper coverage for unusual exposures within the program.
  • Participate in policy updates and changes including drafting new coverage language.
  • Providing direction and training to underwriters by issuing rating & pricing instructions, setting timelines, and being available to answer coverage questions

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Undergraduate degree in related field and 3-5 years underwriting experience or a combination of education and considerable (5-10 years) underwriting experience
  • Valid driver’s license and own transportation
  • Considerable knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance coverages, contracts and underwriting guidelines
  • Strong comprehension skills with the ability to read, analyze and interpret insurance policies, professional journals, and technical procedures
  • Demonstrated abilities to gather and analyze information and reach sound conclusions; interpret and apply policy and procedure; create and maintain complex hardcopy and electronic files including databases;
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers including Microsoft Suite software applications and the use of the internet for business purposes
  • Insurance certifications are desired
