The Virginia Risk Sharing Association (VRSA) is the first and most financially sound group self-insurance pool in the Commonwealth. We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Accountant. This position is responsible for all activities associated with the accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger posting, bank reconciliations, budget preparation and monthly and annual financial statement preparation.

Experience and Education Requirements

Candidates must possess a minimum of five years’ experience. Analytical and strong communication skills are necessary, along with the following minimum attributes and qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or business administration
  • Progressively responsible experience in general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and financial data management

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Working knowledge of generally applied accounting principles and practices; banking and business practices and procedures
  • Strong MS-Office knowledge, experience with MS Dynamics SL is a plus
  • Highly organized with detailed and accurate work habits
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data, reach sound conclusions and present findings; create and maintain hardcopy and electronic files including databases
  • Work effectively with all levels of the organization, meet deadlines and goals and function independently and as a member of a team
  • Experience processing payroll and benefit enrollments and changes
  • Professionalism, ethics, character and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of commercial insurance terminology and environment would be helpful
