Accounting Assistant – Part Time

Currently, we have an opening for a part-time Accounting Assistant. This part-time position offers great flexibility. We anticipate 15-20 hours per week will be needed. The position provides administrative and technical support to accounting operations in the Finance Department.

  • Assist with Member billing for VMLIP and affiliate companies including: electronic billing of renewal, endorsement and audit statements; posting of member receipts in accounting system and following up on delinquent member accounts.
  • Post receipts in the claims system, follow up on un-cashed claims checks using established procedures, make adjustments and re-issuance checks as necessary based on results.Perform check writing process for bill review vendor to include printing claims checks, matching to printed EORs and mailing.
  • Perform check writing process for operations checks and follow up on outstanding invoices and un-cashed checks as necessary.
  • Maintain electronic and physical files for receipts, disbursements and other documentation.

Experience/Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in data entry and posting and reconciling funds

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • General knowledge of basic business equipment
  • Strong proficiency in the use of personal computers particularly Microsoft Excel application
  • Aptitude in basic math functions
  • Some knowledge of commercial insurance terminology and environment is helpful
  • Experience with automated accounting systems
  • Bookkeeping experience
