The Town of Alberta hosts Venerable Buddhist monks on their Walk for Peace

Last fall, a group of Buddhist monks began a “Walk For Peace” that would take them from Fort Worth, Texas, through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia on their way to Washington, D.C.

Their purpose: raising awareness of peace, loving kindness, and compassion across America and the world.

As the walk progressed into Virginia at the end of January, Mayor Robert Hayes of the Town of Alberta received a call asking if the town would host the monks on their journey.

We got a telephone call asking if we could host the monks and find a building for them to sleep in,” said Mayor Robert W. Hayes Sr. “So I called the preacher at one of the churches in town and talked to him, we picked out a facility, which was one of the churches in town.”

After deciding on a location to host the monks, VRSA was the mayor’s next call.

“From having festivals here in town, like Taste of Brunswick, I knew we needed to be insured – to make sure we had everything covered,” said Hayes.

The town was able to have volunteers for the event covered under their VRSA general liability policy with no additional premium.
