The Town of St. Paul, located in Russell and Wise Counties in Southwest Virginia, could think of a multitude of reasons why adding a drone to their toolbox could benefit the community and help prevent and reduce losses.
“There are a lot of situations that employees find themselves in that if we can eliminate the inherent risk of their job by using a drone, it would be more beneficial, keep them safe, and reduce claims,” said Town Manager Chad Monday.
The town utilized the Risk Management Grant program to purchase a drone, which they use for inspections, to monitor the area during events, and to gather promotional video. Learn more about their use of the drone in the video below.
For members interested in purchasing or utilizing a drone, VRSA offers the assistance of three FAA-licensed drone pilots. These staff members can work with members to find ways to reduce risks using drones, as well as provide guidance on the rules and regulations regarding the use of drones by a public entity.
