Register now for the 2017 VMLIP Annual Meeting

Registration for the 2017 Annual Meeting is now online. This year’s event will be held at The Place at Innsbrook on Friday, May 12.

Agenda items include:

  • Autonomous Cars: Autonomous vehicles (AVs) will soon have a profound impact on society and public entities. Public transit, fleet and school bus operations, land use planning, local infrastructure and local revenues will all be impacted. Explore the opportunities and risks that are presented by this new technology and consider the implications for your community.
  • Member Panel: Forming a Peer Group For A Specific Result: A three-member panel with moderator will discuss the value of forming a peer group to actively manage specific types of claims. In 2015, a group of VMLIP member schools formed a bus transportation peer group with the intent to reduce the frequency and severity of at-fault bus accidents. Since then, the frequency and severity of at-fault bus accidents has seen a significant reduction.
  • VMLIP Website Tour & Pool Update: VMLIP staff will provide a detailed overview of the newly redesigned VMLIP website, as well as discuss future features and upgrades that will be released in the coming months.
  • Surveillance in Workers’ Compensation: Caught on Film: Insurance fraud can present itself in any claims environment, including workers’ compensation. Occasionally, during the handling of workers’ compensation claims suspicions arise, anonymous phone calls are received, injured workers are seen around town performing activities outside of their work injury restrictions, etc.; therefore, in a small percentage of workers’ compensation claims, surveillance is used. VMLIP’s workers’ compensation defense attorney and investigator will share their experience in investigating and defending these type of claims.  Actual film will be shown and the outcome will be discussed.
