Results of the 2017 Public Entity Employee Safety & Loss Control Survey

The Public Risk Management Association (PRMA) has recently published results of the 2017 Public Entity Employee Safety & Loss Control Survey.

The survey was conducted in coordination with PMA Companies to examine risk management practices among public entities, and to then provide information to help entities:

  • Benchmark their safety/loss prevention program with those of their public entity peers;
  • Gain a more in-depth understanding of the key challenges faced by their peers; and
  • Discover effective safety and loss prevention strategies.

Most respondents rated their workers’ compensation performance as “performing well,” while also citing employee safety training; increased safety communications; and improving safety culture as the most effective strategies for reducing accidents on the job.

Additional questions probed respondents’ opinions on challenges to workplace safety; budgeting; strategies being utilized or considered; significant safety and loss control issues; and more.

The overwhelming conclusion of the survey revealed that a strong safety program leads to fewer workers’ compensation injuries.
